Hurricane Helene
As of Sunday evening, more than 60 are dead across five states due to destruction caused by Hurricane Helene. Helene is the strongest storm to ever hit Florida’s Big Bend region while rampaging across the Southeastern United States. Many US towns are facing massive flooding and damage–homes, businesses, and other localities are left partially or fully submerged. There are thousands of missing persons reports filed and approximately 2.4 million Americans left without power across the Southeast. Additional rainfall is expected through the start of this week in Helene’s wake, and countless evacuation and rescue efforts will continue throughout the weeks ahead.

Middle East Update
The leader of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, is reported dead after an Israeli strike in Lebanon over the weekend. This particular bombing campaign was a dramatic escalation from previous strikes–killing over 1,00 people in addition to Nasrallah. Iran, who supports Hezbollah, has already sworn that his death will “not go unanswered.” Due to this strike and others like it, up to 1 million people have been displaced in Lebanon according to the Prime Minister. This most recent attack takes tensions in the Middle East to a new high, causing the US to again scramble for solutions to all-out war in the region.
