The Best Ways to Spend Halloween

By: Melody Yuan

Halloween was just six days ago, but here are some ideas for your Halloween party next year. It’s never too early to get some ideas in! Everyone has different opinions on how to spend Halloween night. Some people go the old school route and just go trick or treating, while some prefer to host parties at their house. In the end, it all depends on personal preference, but here’s my take on the best Halloween night plans.

If you’re feeling a little too old to go trick or treating, hold a costume party at your place! It still gives similar vibes to trick or treating, especially if you put out bowls of candy. You and your friends can dress up and compete for the best costume in the house. You could also try hosting a costume creation party, in which everyone brings supplies and makes DIY costumes the entire night. However, if you want something a little more laid back, there’s nothing wrong with a classic horror movie binge! Try not to stay up too late, though, if Halloween happens to fall on a weekday. Or stay up! You might see some spooky things as the night goes on.

If you’re feeling adventurous, see if any local farms are hosting Halloween events. Some large farms will transform into a Halloween hub all throughout October. You might be able to visit haunted houses, try corn mazes, get candied apples, and more at these farms. It will probably be chilly that night too, so the atmosphere will feel extra scary. Even if you’re not into haunted houses, there are other options. There’s a lot to do if you choose to visit a farm!

A more munchy Halloween plan is hosting a spooky potluck. Invite your guests to conjure fun, haunted dishes that are unpleasant on the outside but pleasant on the inside. For dessert, gather your guests and decorate Halloween cookie houses together. Turn the decorating into a competition and judge whose houses are the best! Set up some cool lights and play Halloween music in the background to enhance the vibes. If you’re feeling extra, talk to one of your guests beforehand to set up a jumpscare in the middle of the party. That could mean flickering the lights, leaving the house and knocking on the door, or something else that you come up with.

Regardless of whichever plan you think its best, all good Halloween plans have one thing in common: safety. Halloween night won’t be fun unless it’s safe!
