Trump’s New Cabinet

Last week, Trump announced several controversial picks to fill his cabinet as the 47th president of the United States. The trend among his picks seems to be politicians and others in positions of power that have supported him throughout his journey to the presidency. Especially notable and controversial picks include Robert F. Kennedy Junior (RFK) as the head of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Florida Representative Matt Gaetz as the Attorney General, and Fox News Host Pete Hegseth as the Secretary of Defense. These three choices have been controversial due to their respective backgrounds and levels of experience. Much hesitation from both sides of the aisle has been directed towards the choices of Representative Gaetz and Host Hegseth due to their ongoing investigations of sexual misconduct and assault, respectively. There is still much to be decided for the future of Trump’s 2025 cabinet.

Biden Authorizes Ukraine to Strike Russia With Long-Range U.S. Missiles

With just two months left in the Biden presidency, the US has allowed Ukraine to use ATACMS system weapons in Russia in the Kursk region. The weapons will likely be used against North Korean troops deployed in western Russia. The decision marks a major change in US policy concerning Ukraine, showing an effort to bolster Ukraine in advance of President-elect Donald Trump’s ascent to office. Though this singular policy is not expected to dramatically improve Ukraine’s condition or change the course of the war, it certainly will give Kyiv a fighting chance in the months leading up to Trump’s inauguration.
