Ins and Outs for 2024

By: Akshaya Ramasamy

This new year, it has become a trend to predict the intricacies and nuances that will define the year ahead. The trend identifies positive things deemed “in” and negative concepts deemed “out” in 2024. From doing puzzles to 10-year-olds at Sephora, the various situations that will shape our experiences in 2024 are shared in this article.

INS:

  • The Pomodoro Technique

This time management method consists of 25-minute working periods followed by 5-minute breaks. Scientifically known to increase productivity, the Pomodoro Technique will inevitably help improve output in 2024. We all know that productivity is something we need daily, especially with the Maggie Walker workload, so this technique will improve our success rate in 2024.

  • Morning and Night Routine

Having a set morning routine will help you start your day on the right track, while a sufficient nighttime routine will increase your happiness at the end of the day. A satisfying morning routine could consist of brushing your teeth, getting dressed, eating a healthy breakfast, and moving your body in any way you prefer. On the other hand, a gratifying nighttime routine could include habits such as packing your backpack, setting up your outfit, taking care of your skin, and reading a book. While self-care is always an “in” every year, these routines can help you master the art of self-care.

  • Puzzles

Puzzles are an enjoyable way to stimulate your brain and are especially entertaining when done with a group of close friends. For example, over winter break, my friends and I had a puzzle night. Although it can be considered nerdy, we actually enjoyed it and felt incredibly accomplished at the end. Puzzling needs to make a comeback in 2024 and rekindle its popularity.

OUTS

  • Fully Wasted Days

Let me preface this by saying that a day intended for relaxation is not what I consider a fully wasted day. This label belongs to a day when you planned to do something but instead lay in bed on your phone all day. I have experienced many of these days, and they do no good for my mental, physical, and social well-being.  Remember: a half-wasted day is not a fully wasted day. There are many ways to recover, such as moving your body in any way you prefer, finishing easy tasks first, or getting fresh air.

  • Clutter

Any sort of clutter can be detrimental; whether mental or actual physical clutter, it is only creating more uneasiness in your life. So, get up, go clean your room, and make it a point to keep it decluttered. Mental clutter, however, is much harder to clear, but one piece of advice that may help is journaling. Writing your thoughts down will help you understand your feelings and emotions in a much clearer manner.

  • 10-Year-Olds at Sephora

We have all heard the stories of annoying, bratty 10-year-olds at Sephora. If you haven’t, you can easily find various situations on social media platforms. The stories there will provide you with a good laugh. These 10-year-olds are most definitely an “out” for 2024 and should be out of Sephora as well.

In 2024, navigating the year's complexities involves embracing habits that enhance productivity and well-being. By following these ins and outs, we can make 2024 a year marked by intentional choices that elevate our daily lives.
