Fall in for these Fall Favorites!

and that means it’s fall and time to eat and drink some fall staples! From pumpkin spice lattes to haldi doodh, there is a variety of different fall foods and drinks to choose from, and The Jabberwock staff has chosen some of their favorites to highlight.

Sweet potato pies, suggested by Reagan McMichael (‘25), are a southern delicacy made with sweet potatoes and pie crust. The texture is similar to that of pumpkin pies. McMichael recommends this dish for anyone looking for a level up from pumpkin pie, as the sweet flavor is more muted than in pumpkin pie.

Another delightful food to try is the maple-frosted donut, suggested by Heer Patel (‘23). For Patel, maple-frosted donuts are superior to the classic glazed donuts because they are coated in a rich maple glaze. Unfortunately, these delicacies used to be found at Dunkin’ Donuts until they were discontinued. However, you can still see these seasonal treats in your local grocery stores once November hits.

The pumpkin chocolate chip muffin is the iconic chocolate chip muffin, but with a twist! Nina Broderick (‘24) baked these muffins to pass the time during quarantine in 2020. These muffins are full of fall spices and plenty of chocolate chips!

With all these amazing fall foods, you need a nice drink to accompany them. Suggested by Bhavya Gummadi (‘26), the iconic Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks is the way to go. “It just tastes really good and makes me feel warm when it’s cool outside,” says Gummadi.

While Bhavya wants to feel warm, Lily Vorhees (‘26) likes to stay cool. She suggested the Pumpkin and Gingersnap Ice Cream found at Gelati Celesti. “It’s a cold food but sometimes the weather is irrelevant when it comes to flavors,” says Vorhees. She describes the Pumpkin and Gingersnap Ice Cream as having “the perfect textures and balance of sweet and ginger-y crunch.” She had this ice cream flavor in 8th grade, and she hasn’t forgotten it since.

Traveling across the world to South Asia, Haldi Doodh is a nice international drink with a nod to fall. Also known as Moon Milk, this suggestion by Jahan Hassan (‘25) is a spice-filled drink with turmeric and milk. “Whenever I think of fall, I think of its yellowish-orange color,” says Hassan, in reference to the similarities between this drink and the fall season.

There is such a variety of different fall foods to try, each with its own spin on classic foods and its special flavors. Regardless of different origins and flavors, all of these fall foods and drinks are sure to perfect the seasonal transition from summer to fall
