Easter Eggs and Speculations: Will There Be a Julie and the Phantoms Season 2?
By: Neha Jain
Countless people have most likely heard about the possibility of a renewal of Julie and the Phantoms (JATP) for Season 2. On numerous social media platforms, there have been a few easter eggs that have pointed to an upcoming season. Let’s dive into it.
In the show, Julie recently lost her mother when a group of phantoms appeared in her room after she played a CD by a band called Sunset Curve. These phantoms, Luke, Alex, and Reggie, were members of Sunset Curve, but they tragically passed away before they could gain recognition. Throughout the show, they help Julie find her voice through music, and she helps them fulfill their rockstar dreams.
Julie and the Phantoms was directed by Kenny Ortega, who also directed High School Musical and Descendants. In 2021, he announced that Season 2 of Julie and the Phantoms would be canceled. Recently, Ortega signed a contract with his old company, Paradigm, and there has been speculation that this may lead to a second season. Such speculation also arises from the “Julie and the Phantoms” tag on Ortega’s Instagram bio, which he had taken out previously and just added back. Ortega also posted a picture captioned, “I’ll be right back Willie…” Willie is the name of his dog, and the name of one of the boys who was a part of the band. Another producer, Sean W. Cunningham has also started posting Julie and the Phantoms content, hinting at another season.
The cast of the show have also been busy posting easter eggs that have left fans hopeful. Madison Reyes, who plays Julie, posted a video on X captioned “All I’m gonna say…” The video said, “Julie + Madison = Moth,” which she posted to promote her new song called Moth. This post led to fans messaging her about the possible return of Julie and the Phantoms, which prompted Reyes to post “You guys are making me believe JATP is fr coming back lol.” Judah Marie and Savannah Lee May, who played Flynn and Carrie respectively, both posted TikToks saying, “Me scrolling through all of the JATP TikToks making great points on how we could come back for a Season 2.” Other cast members such as Owen Patrick Joyner, who played Alex (a band member), and Charles Gillespie, who played Luke (another band member), also posted easter eggs that point at a second season. Joyner posted a TikTok through the account DreamItConventions answering the question “Do you think Julie and the Phantoms will have another season?” with a response that isn’t clearly a yes or a no, leaving fans even more bewildered. Gillespie posted an Instagram reel of one of the filming locations of JATP with the song The Band Is Back, which may be hinting at the show’s return.
Overall, numerous people involved with the show, including members of the cast and producers, are all recently posting about JATP, but does this mean that there will be a second season? No one is completely certain for now, but fans are surely hopeful and looking for a revival of Julie and the Phantoms.
