Dashing into the New Season: Winter Sports
By Emma Notarnicola
As the winter breeze rolls in, it's time to move back inside and avoid braving the cold. This sentiment is reflected in our sports teams as well as we transition into the winter season. Many exciting games and meets, that are luckily indoors, lie ahead of us as we mark the beginning of the wrestling, basketball, swimming, and indoor track season.
Firstly, make sure to cheer on the basketball teams as they head into the new season. The women’s team has experienced many changes this year, with player Yuna Chen (‘24) stating, “I am really excited about the fact that we have a new coach this year and a ton of new players. We are also learning a lot of new plays and strategies we can implement.” Some important games to look forward to are against Hermitage on December 14th and the home game against Tucker on December 19th. Be sure to show your support for our awesome teams, and maybe you'll see some of the “new tricks and different variety of plays,” Chen enthusiastically mentioned.
Stay alert for some of the swim meets as the swim teams embark on another fantastic season. Matilde Quilici (‘24) states she's excited “to have fun, and hopefully see the team make it to states.” She shares that she hopes everyone will do their best and have many successes throughout the season. We can’t wait for an exciting season from our amazing swim teams, so mark your calendar for regionals and states.
After an eventful cross-country season, the track teams begin the winter season with excitement and determination. As they shift indoors, we are excited to see how their seasons progress. Katherine Streeter (‘24), captain of the long-distance track team, states, “I am most excited for the meets this season,” promising some exciting racing in the future, promoting the Liberty University meet next weekend and Bulldog Invitational (also hosted at Liberty) in January. She also guarantees impressive racing at both regionals in February and states in March. Streeter states, “I have high expectations for this season because our distance team performed very well during the cross-country season, and I think we can continue that indoors.” We are sure that our distance and sprint teams will perform incredibly well–be sure to cheer them on to guarantee they run even faster.
There are many exciting meets and games to mark on our calendars these coming months. Make sure to stay updated on each team's schedules and keep an eye out for the events mentioned above. It would be great to have a large support to cheer on our athletes and guarantee another amazing winter season!
